Season 2012 is coming to an end, and also the IRC series too. In the coming season onwards, the IRC will be merged into the European Rally Championship. The season finale was scheduled at the city of Limassol, Cyprus. The event is a mixed surface based rally with both gravel & asphalt sections in the special stages. The event is held since 1970 in various championships, including WRC, IRC & MERC. Since 2010, it has been in the IRC calendar & was last won by Andreas Mikkelsen in Skoda Fabia S2000 car. The event was eventually won by Nasser Al-Attiyah in his new Ford Fiesta RRC, which he will be fielding with two more in the coming WRC season in a WRC addon kit for the same car. Andreas Mikkelsen was pretty much there on his tail until he picked up a puncture in SS10 and dropping couple more minutes but still comfortably finishing in 2nd place. The 12th round of IRC season 2012 is going live in exactly in a day's time. Top level competition may be missing, but the rally never lost its charm to entertain the fans & spectators in this beautiful asphalted roads that go around the hilly region of Italy. For most of us [especially myself], Italy means the homeland of the great machine that ruled the rally stages in the early formative years of WRC & rallying itself. Not just machines, even the footwear for the machines. Walter Rohrl in this epic picture gives the goosebumps! Coming to the competition there about 35cars, with just two S2000 Peugeot 207's, one from the homeland team & another from Swiss. The rest 2WD cars are from Italians itself, with an exception of another Swiss. The fantastic stages of the mountains will be the most exciting place to rally with the kind of roads it offers. Eleventh round of the IRC season 2012 is here and ready to thrill both the rally fans & teams. BUT!! The championship top teams are missing from the action as they have decided to stay put to their couches for their own reasons. Despite this, the competition is pretty healthy with 45 cars to take the start for Leg1. It is also understandable as the manufacturer championship is already decided, with Skoda bagging this season too, and its drivers Andreas Mikkelsen well into the claim of the driver's championship too. In less than a day, the roads of Ukraine is going under attack by the IRC season 2012 Prime Yalta Rally. The drivers are setting the roads on fire with their cars with utmost precision on the asphalt roads with grit and determination. There are only 29 cars in the IRC competition as most of the top drivers/teams are competing at the WRC's 10th round, Wales Rally GB which are having the same dates on the calendar. But there is no less attack as there is one RRC class Fiesta RRC driven by PROTASOV Yuriy, by 77 Rally Team  and few more S2000 cars [with only one Skoda car, the Fabia S2000]. There are other R4, Group N and other two wheel driven cars on the list. In about a few hours from now the ninth round of Intercontinental Rally Challenge, Barum Czech Rally is going live at Zlin. A total of 15 stages, with one spectator special stage for tonight in the city of Zlin, and then for the next two days it moves out of the population in the outskirts with 8 stages on day 2 and remaining 6 for day 3. Day 2 [update]: 'Andreas Mikkelsen' wins 'Sibiu Rally Romania'! The result and winner was obvious with the overall results on the board with just the Super Special remaining. It was a fantastic result for the young Norwegian who won the rally with a comfortable margin of more than 5 minutes ahead of the chasing pack, says " It's been long weekend. With so big gap it's just about getting the car to the finish. We had lot of second places, it's nice to be again on the top spot. It's important result for the whole team. ". Although the luck and conditions were in his favour as the down-order had issues with visibility due to hanging dust over the stages, he was not a easy one to catch either!
